A fun, nurturing environment for children ages 18 months to 5 years old, combining the best in early childhood education with a full Spanish, French or Mandarin immersion focus, depending on the location.

CommuniKids Preschool is an approved provider under the Military and DoD Childcare Fee Assistance program. This program provides childcare subsidies to military families.

CommuniKids Preschool is an approved provider under the Child Care Aware Of America (Military Families), VA ChildCare Subsidy Program and Navy Child and Youth Programs (CYP).This program provides childcare subsidies to military families. Learn more here.

Students must be at least 18 months old to attend CommuniKids Preschool DC
Toilet training is not a requirement for students
Our preschool year runs from early September to mid-June
Full Day: 8:30 am-3:00 pm
Morning Extended Care: 8:00-8:30 am
Afternoon Extended Care: 3:00-6:00 pm
Previous exposure to the target language is not a requirement for students
Our teachers are native speakers with years of experience working with young children
Class size is no larger than 8 students with two teachers for the 18 month old classes (Cathedral Commons only)
Class size is no larger than 16 students with two teachers for the 2½ and 3 year old classes
Class size is no larger than 20 students with three teachers for the 4 year old classes
Students may bring their lunches from home, or parents may choose to participate in our hot lunch delivery program. CommuniKids provides a healthy snack each day
Our Student Support Team is on-site for both school and parent support
Preschool year runs from August to mid-June
We offer a summer camp program with priority registration for preschool families. Summer camp tuition is separate from preschool tuition but comparable in weekly cost
CommuniKids closes for federal holidays, spring and winter breaks, and occasional professional development days throughout the school year. Please request a copy of our Academic Calendar for more information

We offer eight weeks of summer camp fun, with the option of registering for just one week or multiple weeks!

Important Information

Our Preschool program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
The day is conducted entirely in Spanish.
There are two teachers in each classroom.
Our teachers are native speakers with years of experience working with young children.
Our guided play activities are based on early childhood best practices and are designed to help students reach specific linguistic, social, and academic goals.

Policies

A non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $100.00 per child per session is due upon registration. A registration is completed WHEN CommuniKids recieves the deposit payment. The deposit is applied toward the session cost.

The remaining balance is due by May 4, 2025.

CommuniKids does NOT offer refunds for canceled sessions after registration is completed. CommuniKids does NOT offer refunds or make-ups for missed days.

Families may request session changes before May 4, 2025 and depending on CommuniKids space availability. After May 4, no session changes will be accepted.

Parents need to submit a current (dated within a year) VA school entrance health forms and other required forms by June 7, 2025. Children CANNOT attend camp unless forms have been submitted in advance.

Young children (ages 2 ½ - 5 ½) attending full time summer camp will have a 45min "Quiet Time" period.

Children MUST bring their own lunch from home

CommuniKids is peanut and tree nut free.

Pre-K Enhancement and Expansion Funding Program

As part of the District’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s (OSSE) Pre-K Enhancement and Expansion Funding Program, CommuniKids Preschool is now offering FREE Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 spots to eligible children at 3 DC locations: Tenleytown Center, Glover Park Center and Cathedral Commons Center. CommuniKids is an NAEYC-accredited, Spanish and Mandarin immersion preschool serving children from 18 months to 5 years of age.

PLEASE NOTE: All free Pre-K three and four spots are dependent on the Program funding being renewed each year by OSSE.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this program, children must meet the following criteria required by OSSE:

Verified residency in the District under Section 12 of the Student Residency Requirement Act, Code 38-309;
For Pre-K 3: children must be three years of age by September 30th of the program year for which the child is being enrolled; for the 2025-2026 school year, children must be 3 years of age by September 30, 2025
For Pre-K 4: children must be four years of age by September 30th of the program year for which the child is being enrolled; for the 2025-2026 school year, children must be 4 years of age by September 30, 2025;
Children who are five years of age BEFORE September 30, 2025, are NOT eligible for the Pre-K Enhancement Program;

Children enrolled in our 18 months - 2½ year-old preschool classes will receive priority for the program the following school year.

Program Information:

100% Spanish, French or Mandarin immersion curriculum depending on location.
Full day: 8:30 am – 3:00 pm
Morning and afternoon extended care available for an additional cost (NOT included in Pre-K Enhancement Program)

HOW TO APPLY:

Submit 2025-2026 DC Free Pre-K3 & Pre-K4 Application. Be sure you receive an on-screen confirmation after clicking submit.
Once we receive your application, we will send you an email confirmation along with a lottery number.
Applications are due by March 3, 2025.
Lottery results will be available the week of March 24, 2025.

IF YOUR CHILD IS SELECTED FOR ENROLLMENT:

You MUST notify CommuniKids whether or not you will be accepting the spot by April 4, 2025. If we don't receive a response from you, we will offer the spot to the next family on the waitlist.
Before the start of the school year, you must show proof of residency and age of your child. You will receive a separate email with instructions on how to electronically submit proof of residence prior to the start of the school year.
